A plug-in Japanese lantern that needs no wiring
This swag pendant takes the classic washi lantern and turns it into a plug-in light: hang the cord over a ceiling hook, plug it into an ordinary power point and the room has warm overhead light. There is no junction box to deal with and no electrician to book.
The mulberry paper lights up evenly across the whole shade, mellow enough next to a bed and bright enough above a reading chair, and the lamp can move to another corner in minutes. Renters, dorm rooms and spaces without ceiling wiring are exactly what it was designed for.
Each shade is mulberry-bark paper bonded over a steel frame. Small differences in texture and faint glue lines along the edges come from the way the paper is applied, so no two lanterns look exactly alike. These marks belong to the material and are not flaws.
What makes paper light different
- Real washi paper: the translucent mulberry-bark paper spreads the light of the bulb into an even, warm glow, with no glare and no hot spots.
- Candlelight warmth: an E27 bulb of 2200 to 2700 K comes included, giving the amber tone of lamplight seen through a shoji screen.
- Featherweight: at about 4.4 lb / 2 kg it hangs easily, puts little load on the ceiling and is simple to move around.
- Plug in, no wiring: a 16.4 ft / 5.0 m cord with an in-line switch 31.5" / 80 cm from the plug. You need no electrician, it suits renters and setting it up takes minutes.

Care and maintenance
- Dust, never wet: wipe the washi shade lightly with a clean, dry cloth and keep water, solvents and abrasive cleaners away from it.
- Away from direct sun: strong sunlight can turn the paper yellow or weaken it over time, so place it away from sunny windows.
- Dry rooms only: moisture in the air can make washi paper go limp or warp, so keep the lantern in dry indoor spaces and out of bathrooms and steamy kitchens.
